Heather Dunne’s business has gone from strength to strength in the last five years and she credits Denise’s support as a major factor in its growth and her ability to gain an impressive work / life balance.
Heather first came to Denise when she recognised she needed to start focusing on her business vision. Faced with a huge workload and not enough hours in the day, she contacted Denise hoping to clarify what she wanted from her business and how to go about achieving it.
Denise helped Heather realise the focus of her business had become blurred; she was offering too many services to clients that weren’t the best use of her time. Alongside the company’s current focus, pension transfers, she was also offering client training and IFA technical support work.
“Denise really made me think about what my company has to offer that makes us different from others and how I could sell that difference. She also made me look at what I really enjoyed doing and what makes money – that’s what got us back to focusing on pension transfers.”
A combination of market and legislative change in the pensions industry provided Heather with the opportunity to grow her business, and Denise provided her with the tools to capitalise on that potential.
“She made rather ambitious change much less scary. She helped me plan and take action in smaller stages, and really made me quantify my progress on a regular basis, which kept me on track.”
Denise was invaluable to Heather’s business planning and marketing, as well as her decision to outsource back-office functions. Her expertise in developing teams helped Heather grow her staff from three to 15. They used profiling to source candidates, define roles and responsibilities, and continue developing her staff, leading to a happy and motivated workforce.
“Denise made me stand back and work on my business, rather than just in it. I employ five times as many people as I did when I met Denise, and my revenues are ten times as much. The best bit is that I’ve gone from working 6.5 days a week to 4 days.”
Heather still works with Denise regularly, and this year the quarterly meetings they undertake have helped them to work on her and her team’s strengths. Those are being extended by team meetings with the three sub teams within the company. The first of those has already resulted in some adjustments and amendments based on suggestions from the team, which are strengthening the company for the longer term.
